Copyrights R Us
Copyright issues are of concern to writer’s in general because of the desire to protect one’s work. Role-players have the same concerns, but also sometimes need to be aware of the other side of the coin when it comes to things like ‘fair-use’.
The World Intellectual Property Organization has put out a publication that it hopes will help teach the basics of copyright law in action. While the 72 page PDF booklet is aimed at 9-14 year olds, it seems informative enough that that just about anyone may learn something from it.
The folks at ARS Technica had this to say:
Unlike Captain Copyright and similar past efforts to educate kids, the WIPO document actually covers both sides of the equation. Public domain works get several pages of explanation, though the booklet rightly notes that finding something available for free on the Internet doesn’t mean it’s in the public domain.
