Use Jottit to Write, Collaborate
There are plenty of places out there to get a free website, most can be a bit cumbersome to use and riddle your page with ads. New kid on the block, jottit, is a unique mixture of a wiki and Twitter. Everything you do is done in a single, simple text box.
There’s no register for anything to get started, just go to www.jottit.com and start typing, then click the create a page button. That’s it! Your page is published to a randomly named sub-folder under jottit.com and from there you can edit your text, and by using some simple markups you can add images, format the text, and add links to other pages both in and outside of your new site. There is even a built in preview pane to show you what your page will look like as you edit it.
If you want to register, you can then password protect the site, so only those with the password can edit and/or view the site and even request a subdomain address to make your site easier to find.
For writers/role-players working with others on story ideas, this is a great tool to be used as a collaborative resource to post reference material, rough drafts, etc. The wiki style structure means it also tracks changes, allowing you to revert to previous versions if one draft doesn’t work out quite right.
For individuals, This could be a simple, free alternative to other hosting options for posting character profiles and such. You don’t get much of an option on the layout and look of the site itself, but as long as it remains ad-free, it could be a good trade off.
